Bridesmaids and Groomsmen…the best accessory!

Choosing who will stand for you on your wedding day is a big decision! Do you keep it simple with one each or celebrate in grand style with 15?
Erin and Colt decided to go big with a group of friends that were all too thrilled to help celebrate their awesome day!
I mean, who better to ooh and ahh at you while you get your gown on? Who better to keep your groom calm and distracted as he waits for the big moment!
Who better to shed the inevitable tears than your bridesmaids during the ceremony? Who better to enliven the dance floor and make it a celebration to remember!
Erin and Colt had a great wedding party and it was amazing to photograph this fantastic group of friends.

To see…Or Not To See…?

Seeing each other before the wedding is a big no no to some traditionalists!
But more and more of our brides and grooms are choosing to see each other before the wedding for a myriad of reasons. For some it is a religious ceremony, for some it is just timing and wanting to take formals before the wedding and not during cocktail hour, and some just can’t wait to see each other!
Gretchen and Jimmy are a testament to what amazing moments can be captured when you see each other before the ceremony! Take a look at her face! Priceless!
A big thank you to Jan McBee at LaFete Weddings and Special Events for helping to orchestrate a perfect evening at Summit Chase Country Club. And thank you to Gretchen and Jimmy for having us there!

So what is with the umbrellas??

So, I consider myself to be a good southern girl, up on many southern traditions and “isms” that pop up at our weddings.
But this one got me. I have seen it twice this year…and I was calling it “the New Orleans Umbrella dance-y thing”
But after seeing it at Leslie and Alex’s wedding, (and they were just so cute and happy, and it is so darn pretty!) I did a little research to find out…SO what is with the umbrellas??
Turns out it is called The Second Line Parade, and it IS from New Orleans!
The Second Line parade. Virtually every wedding in the New Orleans area has some form of a Second Line (many don’t fit the strict definition of a Second Line, but to keep things simple, the term is broadly used). In its most basic form, the DJ or band will play that universally recognized (in New Orleans at least!) Second Line song, and everyone dances in a line around the venue waving napkins in the air.
How fun, right? I love the different family and cultural traditions that people bring to their weddings! Thank you Leslie and Alex, for making me a little smarter today. :)

Rice Shower!

Get ready for this one folks, ’cause it is a doozy!
Suma and Deepak had a night to remember back in October and we were lucky enough to be a part of the celebration!
There were countless beautiful photographs to choose from but the ones below really blew me away. And once again I took to google to find out more….
In many South Indian weddings there is a ceremony called the Talambra or Rice Shower immediately after the couple is wed.
It is a gorgeous event to photograph as you can see, but the essence of the ceremony is playful, which I LOVE. It originated as a way for the bride and groom to get know each other better. It kind of reminds me of my beloved cake smash! In this case though I also read that it is supposed to encourage fertility as well! Hmmm….
Anyway, the more throwing and smashing the better I say!
